Yeast Free Diet Recipes For Dinner

When we talk about a yeast free diet we don't actually mean a diet without any yeast. The purpose of a yeast free diet is to stop eating foods that feed the natural yeast type fungus in our bodies. The yeast is known as candida with the most common being candida albicans. A yeast infection can occur anywhere on the body but a yeast free diet can help wherever it appears. The yeast will feed on sugar in the bloodstream if necessary. Usually a strict diet will also prevent the return of an infection.
The list of food not allowed on the diet is quite long but there is still a large variety left to choose from to make well balanced meals. The bonus is that most of the foods that are allowed are considered healthy foods which should make you feel better. Many food manufacturers are realizing that people are becoming more conscious about what they eat and are providing alternatives for a range of common ingredients.
A recommended meal on a yeast diet is an equal portion of meat or fish to vegetables with approximately 20% of carbohydrate, rice or potatoes. Meals should be taken 4 - 5 times daily. This will help the body sugars to balance out and reduce the initial cravings. When you start the diet the yeast will react and demand to be fed, this is where the cravings come in. It may be for sugar, bread or beer. It's because of this that alcoholism has been linked to yeast infections.
All meats are safe to eat as is fish. Organic meat and fish is highly recommended. Farm bred meat and fish are fed with growth hormones and antibiotics of which traces remain even after cooking. The meat can be roast, grilled, stir fried or minced for patties. Fish can be boiled, grilled, or fried. In fact the way you normally prepare the meat part of your meal doesn't have to change that much.
Eggs are extremely versatile when it comes to cooking. An omelet is always an easy way out when you are stuck for ideas. You can add fish or chicken with any vegetables you choose. Serve with rice or potatoes on the side.
For vegetables you can eat virtually anything although leafy green vegetables are considered better. Again fresh organic vegetables are best because of pesticides used in cultivation. Vegetables can be steamed, stir fried or raw. Fresh vegetables can be spruced up with fresh herbs or chopped nuts (not peanuts) and can also be used as snack food if you feel really hungry. Tomatoes contain a lot of natural sugar and should be avoided.
Carbohydrates will come in the form of rice and potatoes. Pasta and noodles are not allowed although there are some rice varieties of these on the market now. Read the label to be sure because wheat products are not allowed.
Sauces and flavorings are a major addition to any meal and there are still plenty of ideas you can use. A salad dressing with lemon, olive oil and unfermented apple cider vinegar is great for salad. Meat juices can be thickened with cornflour or arrowroot and flavored with any fresh herbs. Garlic is considered especially good for yeast infections. Fermented vinegar and products that use it are not allowed, so stay away from mayonnaise and tomato ketchup.
For a drink you are pretty much reduced to water, distilled or carbonated but preferably non chlorinated. All fruit juices, pop, and alcohol are not allowed. Tea and coffee are not allowed except for some herbal teas. Milk, while not banned, has been found to contain growth hormones, pesticides and antibiotics which are valid reasons not to use it.
Among the other considerations are time. Time to shop for, prepare and cook your meal. Also, who is going to eat the diet, are you on your own or are you involving family members. With planning and a little imagination, a yeast free diet shouldn't cause too many problems.

Alkaline Diet Recipes: Recipe Ideas

One of the most commonly discussed diets around is the alkaline diet. The core of it is consuming a heavy dose of fruits and vegetables, which as we all know is healthy for the body. This is not one of those diets that forces you to eat foods that you can't enjoy, you will have a variety of alkaline foods to select from each time you eat. It's important to familiarize yourself with as many alkaline diet recipes and foods so they that you can have as much variety as you would like.
An excellent alkaline diet recipe involves okra with coriander and tomatoes. It's a wonderful dish to have in the summer time and is very easy to make. This mouth-watering Mediterranean dish will require the following ingredients:
400g can chopped tomatoes
450g fresh okra
3 tbsp. olive oil
2 onions thinly sliced
2 tsp. coriander seeds crushed
3 garlic cloves crushed
finely grated rind
juice of a single lemon
Celtic sea salt
black pepper
The black pepper and Celtic sea salt really provides a great finishing touch.
Pour oil in your cooking pan and proceed to add coriander and onions. The okra should be cut first so it will be ready once the pan is hot enough. If you were to cut it up last minute, the onions might become too soft as they are frying. While making this dish, careful consideration should be given to timing
Now, tomatoes should be added and stirred. This mixture should cook for about 20 minutes, then you will top it off with salt, pepper, and lemon rind. The rest of the ingredients can be added and cooked for awhile longer before it's ready.
4 celery stalks, a lemon, a lime, fresh root ginger, and 1 cucumber are needed to make two margaritas. Himalayan salt adds the finishing touch. Using regular sea salt is fine, but this salt is best for margaritas. After everything has been juiced, try the drink to see how it tastes. The drink may need some more ginger, and then proceed to continue testing until it's just how you like it.

Body Detox and Detox Diet Recipes

It's a good idea to detox our body at regular intervals. Detox doesn't just mean abstaining from beer or junk food for a couple of days. Our body is a storehouse of toxins and harmful chemicals accrued over a period of years that render our immune system useless and damage other parts of our body. When the toxin level becomes high, they get converted into free radicals and cause extensive damage to all other organs, break the body's defense and may cause lots of serious medical conditions such as diabetes, MS and even cancer.
So how do we protect our body from this damage? A detox diet should do the trick. Body detox and its benefits is a well researched subject now. Detoxification helps in lowering cholesterol in blood, fighting allergies, improving skin, balancing the chemical levels in the body and effectively lengthens our life span.
When you take a detox diet, you're doing your body a service by helping it get rid of the toxins and unwanted chemicals that have accrued over the years. This diet is recommended by many celebrities and people who were able to overcome their various addictions. They assert this diet has improved their life quality by increasing energy levels, helping them lose weight, improving digestion, making the body more resistant against diseases, improving their mental mind frame and driving away the fatigue that was hindering their every movement. Of course, a good nourishing diet and healthy habits should help achieve all of the above, but people usually realize this late in life and by then we are already infused with a lot of toxins. At this stage, a detox diet is the best way to bring back normalcy to our body.
There are many different types of detox diets. You can opt for a liquid diet that prescribes only water or fruit juices through out the day for a few days. Else, there are diets that increase the content of fish or decrease the calorie consumption per day. A herbal detox diet is a packaged diet that helps you in your purpose.
So many detox diet combination are available that, with the right fundamentals, you too can create your own diet catalogue.
The grape diet is a straightforward detox diet recipe. All you have to do is eat grapes and nothing else. Eat it however you want, as a fruit with water or as juice. This should be followed for a few days to give your system a thorough rinse. It's enough if you use this diet for a few days if you're healthy.
There's another simple diet variant called the lemon diet that's a favorite of many .If you've opted for the lemon diet, make sure to add a slice of lemon to the water you drink through out the day. Water is known as one of the best detox agents, so ensure you drink more than 64 ounces a day. When you add lemon to water, you get the additional nourishment of Vitamin C.
The lemon diet is slightly more complicated than the grape diet. The formulae for this diet involves mixing two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemons, 1/8th of cayenne pepper, 2 tb spoons of B grade organic maple syrup with a cup of pure water. It's important to be sure the water is fluoride free.
Another detox diet that's enriching and that keeps hunger pangs away is the cabbage soup diet. The Gazpacho diet is similar to cabbage. This is a Spanish mixture of tomatoes, bell peppers, fresh garlic clove and cucumbers. Drink this soup cold.
A detox diet is a great way of getting a whole new body with good eating habits; however, be careful while selecting your detox diet and implementing it.

Paleo Diet Recipes - Hype or Healthy Logic

With so many fad diets and new information about health coming out every day, how does anyone wade through all the hype to discover some strategies and simple recipes that just plain make sense? To begin with, let's start with some of the basics.
· What does the human body need for fuel?
· How have we evolved to meet that need?
· What have we changed in the world around us over time and have those changes affected our diet and health?
The human body needs many things for energy, growth and longevity, and also to build an immune system that can fight off unwanted invasion. For countless centuries, humans filled all of these needs from the natural world around them. As hunter-gatherers they consumed only foods that were provided and made available by nature itself. They thrived on hunting wild game, and gathering fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and the roots, stems, and leaves of plants. Around one-third of their intake was game and fish, and the other two-thirds was plant-based food.
Over the course of human history, until about 10,000 years ago, our Paleolithic ancestors consumed only those foods that were best adapted to their metabolisms. Most research findings provide plenty of evidence that these hunter-gatherers were very healthy. They were taller, had larger brains, and were built stronger. Their shorter life expectancy can be logically attributed to extreme weather, accidents and infection, and predatory animals. They were extremely active, often walking an average of 19km (12 mi.) a day while foraging, with many short bursts of speed when hunting. The diet of our ancient ancestors has been thoroughly researched in recent years. The combination of their diet and plenty of exercise allowed their bodies to operate at maximum efficiency.
Then began some major changes as we entered the dawn of the Neolithic period. Over time, humans began to domesticate animals, and agriculture began to appear. Prior to this change, humans had never thought to drink the mother's milk from another species, and our metabolisms have still not adapted to it. The cultivation of grains began the process of refining foods, which were otherwise mostly inedible, and introducing those new products into our diet - yet another thing our natural metabolisms were not well equipped for. These two monumental changes, more than any other factors, have unmistakably altered the human diet, and health.
Some results of these changes in our diet are that 7 out of 10 Americans are currently either overweight or obese. We now suffer from chronic or degenerative diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease - afflictions, which only emerged when we shifted to agriculture. One in every 133 Americans suffer from Celiac disease. That's more than are affected by Multiple Sclerosis, Crohn's Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Parkinson's combined.
So, is a diet that is a modern day version of our Paleolithic ancestors diet just a bunch more hype, or does it actually make logical sense? The sweeping changes in our modern day diet have been brought on by agriculture, but our genes have not changed as quickly. We are still 99.99% identical in makeup to our hunter-gatherer ancestors. Our bodies still require the same high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet. Genetically we are poorly equipped to handle the high-carbohydrate, low-protein diet of modern times.

So maybe you are thinking that a Plaeo diet could be too much of an issue and that you are not actually ready for the change. Well you are quite incorrect in fact nothing could be more simpler than a Paleo diet and recipes are as easily available as is adjusting your regular recipes. Paleo diet recipes are neither boring or complicated the only difference is that meals will be wholesome, flavoursome and healthy.
You will notice that meals consist of approximately 60-70% protein (animal) with the balance being fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
GRAIN (all grain products) and DAIRY (all dairy products) are EXCLUDED totally from the Paleo diet and recipes.
It is very important to source fresh, organic, natural and wild produce and seasonal if possible - this has the added benefit of being carbon footprint friendly.
Your main meal for the day can be adjusted according to your personal lifestyle. An easy way to creating Paleo recipes is to start off with one of your regular recipes and substitute the 'cannot have' with a 'can have' ingredient ie spaghetti bolognaise - omit the pasta and substitute with 'spaghetti' strips of blanched zucchini. Personally I prefer to use the zucchini strips raw but it is up to the individual.
Possible options of meals:
Breakfast:
  1. 2 eggs scrambled with diced tomato and mushroom
  2. Bowl of fruit salad with nuts and cashew cream
  3. Vegetable fritters
  4. Liver and bacon with grilled tomato.
  5. Fruit smoothy of choice eg banana, berries and fresh coconut blended with ice cubes etc.
  6. Grilled fish with grilled tomato and mushroom.
  7. 2 Egg omelette with Paleo filling of choice.
Midday and evening meals
These can be adjusted according to your daily routine.
  1. Mushroom burger with salad (burger patty between to large brown mushrooms)
  2. Roast meat of choice, vegetables and salad
  3. Meat stew with vegetable bake and salsa
  4. Bolognaise - made with zucchini spaghetti
  5. Seafood, avocado and fresh asparagus salad
  6. Chunky soup of choice.
  7. Steak, roasted vegetables on bed of fresh rocket.
  8. Chili con carne - Paleo style - see recipe below:
Salad Dressings/sauces
Sauces and dressings may be used to enhance your meals. An all time favourite dressing being the combination of honey, lemon juice, seasoning and fresh, finely chopped herbs of choice mixed gently or blended together.
Dessert
That is right - DESSERT!!! Paleo food diet recipes or menu is INCLUSIVE of dessert and this is where your creativity and imagination can run wild. Apple tart made with a crushed pecan nut base, berry sorbet, lemon granite are but a few ideas.

Have A Plan
Having a diet plan before you get started can improve your chances of success. Instead of crash dieting for a few days and then going back to your pre-diet eating habits, come up with a plan that's sustainable. Look for a diet that fits into your life style and family routine. Try to choose a diet you know you can stick to for weeks or months.
Depending on you and your families dietary habits, you might do better on a low-carbohydrate or a low-fat diet. Simply choose a diet plan that features a reduction in calories with no specific food list. You can also use a website like sparkpeople.com to help keep track of your calories, weight loss and exercise.
Stock A Healthy Pantry and Have Delicious Recipes To Go With It
Get rid of foods that don't fit your new eating plan. Replace unhealthy foods with nuts, fresh or dried fruits, whole-wheat crackers. Stock up on fresh and frozen vegetables, low-fat dairy products and whole grains like brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, oatmeal and quinoa. Having healthy food around will make it easier to stick to your plan.
Find delicious recipes in cookbooks or online that will help you enjoy the healthy foods you are choosing. Look for quick and easy to prepare foods that use fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs so that you don't get stuck eating the same boring things over and over. Set out a night each week to try a new food or cuisine to help you learn new and exciting flavors and textures.
Plan To Deal With Roadblocks
You can give yourself a day off your diet every week or every two weeks. If you're tempted to eat something off plan, tell yourself to wait until your day off. Make a list of food options you can eat and carry non-perishable snacks in your purse or store in your desk to help stay on plan. Also make a list of things you can do when cravings or emotional-eating strike. Have a tall glass of water and see if the craving subsides. Often times thirst is mistaken for hunger. If you still have the urge to eat the wrong foods, you could go for a walk, call a friend, get a manicure, or take a soothing hot bath.

All About the Paleo Caveman Diet

The Paleo diet was invented by gastroentologist Walter L. Voegtlin in the 1970s. In the seminal book entitled 'The Stone Age Diet, Voegtlin argued that a lot of diseases known to modern man such as cardiovascular conditions, autoimmune diseases and osteoporosis, could be traced to the food we consume today. Despite the lack of medical advances in the paleolithic age, the paleolithic man (hence the term "paleo") did not suffer from these conditions. Voegtlin himself suffered from a host of digestive problems, and he claims that going on the paleo diet was what eventually cured him.
The food items allowed on this diet are all food items that could have been consumed by a human being living in the paleolithic age. The paleo diet is especially popular not only for its efficacy for weight loss, but also because it seems to help with health problems in general. People who have gone on the paleolithic diet have reported a decrease in blood pressure as well, probably because the diet eliminates the consumption of cholesterol- and preservatives-laden modern foods.
Unlike other diets that place stringent restrictions on portion control and calorie count, the paleolithic diet is more about choosing the right foods to eat. If you are considering getting on the caveman diet yourself, here are some guidelines you need to follow:
1. All food items that you consume should have been eaten by the paleolithic man. Therefore, it automatically disqualifies food that has been processed by modern methods such as ice cream, potato chips, and canned goods.
2. Grains like rice, barley, wheat, and rye are also not allowed. (If you look at the history of man's evolution, the paleolithic man was not a farmer, but a hunter and scavenger). Potatoes and beans are also not allowed, as are dairy products, alcohol, sugar, salt, or vegetable oils.
3. The paleo diet is big on nuts, as these are great sources of protein and essential healthy fats. However, avoid peanuts and cashews, because they are technically not really nuts at all, but beans.
4. Vegetables and fruits are definitely a major part of the paleo diet since they provide fiber, vitamins and minerals. While fruits are yummy and full of anti-oxidants, the caveman diet requires that you consume more vegetables than fruits, because fruits still contain a lot of sugar: fructose is a natural sugar, but it is still sugar nonetheless.
5. Meat and eggs are all allowed on the paleo diet, as long as it is sourced from free-range, organically-raised animals. Fish, lamb, poultry, pork and eggs that are free range organic contain more essential fats and does not have any antibiotics or hormones that can affect your health.
For all its beneficial health claims, common sense and good health practices should still prevail when following this diet. It is best to consult with your doctor before starting any diet or regimen.

Diet Dessert Recipes: Peachy Keen Cake
6 large peaches, fresh
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup artificial sweetener
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil
1 egg OR 1 ripe banana, mashed with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup lowfat buttermilk OR 1/2 cup milk, any lower calorie variety, mixed with 1 teaspoon white vinegar
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Make cross-cuts on the stem end of each peach with a sharp knife and place the peaches in the boiling water. Boil for about 1 minute, or until the skins start to become soft. Drain boiling water and transfer peaches to a bowl of cold water to cool. Peel, halve and pit the peaches and set aside.
In a medium skillet, combine 1/3 cup of sugar and one tablespoon of butter. Cook together over medium heat for three to five minutes, or until the sugar begins to melt.
Coat an 8x8 square baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Arrange the peaches inside, cut side up. Pour the melted sugar over the peaches and set all aside.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, beat 1/3 cup artificial sweetener, 1 tablespoon butter and oil with an electric mixer until combined. Add the egg or egg replacer, beating until smooth, then beat in the vanilla and almond extract. With the mixer at low speed, add the buttermilk or buttermilk replacement and the flour mixture, beating until just combined. Do not overbeat.
Spoon the batter evenly over the peaches in the pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Transfer the pan to a wire rack to cool for a few minutes. Loosen the edges of the cake with a knife, and invert the cake onto a serving plate. If any of the peaches stick to the pan, remove them with a knife and replace them on the cake.
